Uptempo offense

When Geno came to Bradley we were told he would bring an uptempo, high scoring offense. But just checking the conference stats today, I noticed Bradley is the lowest scoring team in the MVC overall (64.2 points/game), and in conference play (60.4 points/game), and they are so far behind the 9th place team that its virtually assured they will finish the season 10th out of 10 teams in the watered down MVC. People complained about the Molinari offense, but the 60.4 points/game this season, and the 60.3 points/game in Geno's first year are lower than any other year since '92-'93.
Then I checked the national stats, and found Bradley's 64.2 is 322nd in scoring in Division 1.

My question: Is this what we can expect to see the rest of the time Geno is coach? Or is this because, as Kirk says, we are still looking at years of rebuilding?

I actually think it's more the personnel than the style - but we can agree that BU is not very efficient with scoring...and at this point, the "personnel" can no longer be blamed on someone in the past -
especially since our best scorer and one of our best 3-pt shooters is a leftover from the cupboard - so where'd we be without him.

We are very poor in scoring from the outside, as evidenced by only 89 3-pt FG this season...and one of the worst 3-pt shooting percentages not just on the league but the nation.

The AVERAGE that the other nine MVC teams have hit is NEARLY 140 thus far.
Just as recently as 2007 & 2008 - we were sinking 350 3-pointers per season with one guy alone making almost 120 - more than our entire team might finish with this year...
and no surprise our team was producing 75 ppg - among the TOP two teams in the Valley both of those years and 20-22 wins each year...
Even in the last year of JL we finished with way more 3-pointers made than we will finish this year - and that was with TWO of our most prolific shooters & scorers (Taylor Brown & Sam Maniscalco) out for the season.

If you are going to score anywhere on the court - inside OR outside - you have to have good outside shooters or the defense will collapse and make it hard for you anywhere to get points- we need outside shooters - many fans know this and have been saying it for 3 years - yet ....none of our recruits seem to be an answer to this problem.

I think most coaches want to play uptempo but when push comes to shove it's not as easy as it sounds when you want to value your possessions too.
When Les was hired he said we should fasten our seat belts for an up and down game and I wouldn't say we were doing that either??¦??¦I know we were scoring more I'm just saying it wasn't a track meet either??¦.

The reason we do not play up tempo is because if we did we would turn the ball over more than we do now. We do not many players that have good basketball IQ or ball handling skills. We do not event pass the ball properly.

The reason we don't score more is that our offense is just about totally impotent...One guy dribbles while four guys stand around. No inside game at all...perimeter shots from players who can't shoot...and slow coming up the court after the inbounds pass which allows the opponent to set up his defense...very little movement away from the ball.

it appears that a lot of the players do not know what our offense is - and thus they do stand around and we go one-on-four...
you can't always blame the players when that's happening - we're almost SIX MONTHS and 30 games in now counting all those preseason games...
For us to consistently look like we don't have a clue says as much about the coaching as the players.

Having season tickets at two different valley schools, imo our personnel aren't that different in quality from the Mvc teams that don't start with a "W". Our offense is unimaginative...lemon left, right, or down the lane with a possible kickout if doubled...how many times have we seen that out of a to? He's very good but no one is surprised when he gets the ball.

For a team needing shooters why recruit guys who average in single digits.

We probably will never find out. Bobby Parker screens all the questions to Geno for his TV show and the radio show where one can call in is non-existent. Heaven forbid anyone asks a question that upsets the Bradley powers to be

Seems there is blame all the way around??¦.coaches and players??¦ultimately it's on Geno to recruit his players and coach his players ??¦..

John Calipari always seem to re-load with spring recruits, so it's still possible. And there are a lot of good juco players left, even if the high school talent is slim pickings. This team could be greatly improved next year, but we need to add a couple more shooters- one of them a big wing, plus a shooting guard, and another good ball-handling point guard. Somehow, we'll need to open a couple more roster slots.

I totally agree we need a couple more players that can shoot and have a good basketball IQ because it lacking on this team. Free up some roster spots and go get scoring and some leadership a fighter a team leader!! I would love to see this team have a Rob Dye, Will Franklin, Tony Bennet , Billy Wright, Jerome Robinson,Just to name a few of my favorites..

Yeah??¦I'm not sure Calipari is a good example??¦but I understand??¦.

I'm sure there will be some spots opening up on the roster??¦..we have some decent pieces that will only be better if we add some good players

Can we get a thanks or like button added to this forum? It would be nice to easily press a button when I agree or like a post.

As for this thread, I agree with most. Please give me better coaching, players and atmosphere before I die from ineptitude.

I don't see anything? Do I possibly have a setting turned off? I meant to add a thanks for each post and not the thread. I saw the rate option for the thread, but that was about it...
