More player transfers

Ryan Amoroso is a kid the Patrick O'Bryant is very famiiar with. He is from Burnsville, Minnesota, south of Minneapolis (actually close to Richfield). They were both seniors in 2004 and Amoroso was a much higher rated kid and got a lot of attention from the majors. He was thought to be the #2 big man out of Minnesota in 2004, behind Minnesota recruit Spencer Tollackson, and he was a finalist for Mr. Basketbal (which Tollackson won).

It would be nice if Bradley checked the kid out. If playing at Bradley can get POB into the NBA, it should help Amoroso.

I was thinking the same thing Coach. He's a quality player, and would be eligible in the fall of '07.

ISU does not have any more scholarships to use on this kid. I don't know if the other schools do either. But he is a pretty talented kid, so those coaches would probably jettison one of their other scholarship kids if they could get Amoroso.

UNI has one open scholarship. Amoroso has family that have played athletics at UNI. His hometown is about 3 hours from Cedar Falls. The coach recruiting him to UNI when he was in HS was Kyle Green (originally from Minneapolis area). Marquette was so impressed with Green's ability to get UNI up high on Amo's list coming out of HS that it led Marquette to look hard at offering Green a spot as an assistant at MU. Green ended up going to Marquette, and then Amoroso sealed the deal and verballed to Marquette. Green left after one year at Marquette to take over at Lewis U...and then 2 years later becomes UNI's assistant coach again. Amoroso decides to transfer...where do you think he will go?

It would have been interesting to see how Pedescleaux would have progressed if he hadn't had 2 knee injuries/operations. This year, we might be able to see a little of his skills, but I have a feeling that he will be playing football pretty hardcore until the season is over, when he can begin to play basketball.

That's a pretty good list of kids from Minnesota. That list has been good to Bradley. Brown, Crawford, and O'Bryant.

Two released from Marquette.

Freshman forward Matt Mortenson, 6'6" 190lb.
(had a 30 pt, 12 reb game in the NIT)
Ryan Amoroso, sophomore, 6'8" 242lb.
Amoroso is said to be interested in transferring to Butler, Illinois State, New Mexico, Northern Arizona, Northern Iowa and Division II Southern Indiana.

New Mexico's Ritchie McKay is up and running on trying to get this big kid from Marquette. McKay has built a cottage industry on snatching transfers, often disgruntled and troubled ones that have been dismissed frrom other programs.

Now he hot on the trail of Ryan Amoroso.
"Ryan Amoroso...Stop me if this sounds familiar: The Lobos are interested in a 6-8 power forward who has the size to bang down low and the shooting touch to be a threat from 3-point range. Sound like Joel Box?
Meet Ryan Amoroso, the latest recruit in a growing line of Ritchie McKay prototypical big men.....
Amoroso, who just finished his sophomore year, averaged about six and four for Marquette but wanted out. He got his release last week, and now his high school coach tells The Trib that he is likely to take a visit to UNM in the next couple of weeks.
McKay's got a flair for landing big-time Division I transfers. Troy DeVries became the top 3-point shooter in UNM history. J.R. Giddens appears to be pretty good. Aaron Johnson is a beast on the boards. And Danny Granger seemed to work out OK. (That was sarcasm, so hold off on the e-mails.)"

Illinois State and UNI are after him, maybe even Bruce Weber??
"MU's Amoroso is in demand...Amoroso???‚¬?„?s departure was based primarily on a personality difference with Crean...
New Mexico is also heavily courting Amoroso. Boe said New Mexico coaches said Amoros could make an immediate impact on their program. ???‚¬?“They think he can be another Danny Granger
Other schools who have inquired about Amoroso, according to Boe, are Illinois State, Northern Illinois and Northern Iowa.

"UNM coach Ritchie McKay confirmed he is recruiting Amoroso...
Amoroso averaged 5.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 15 minutes per game last season for Marquette, which finished 20-11.

Along with UNM, Mountain West Conference rivals UNLV and San Diego State appear high on Amoroso's list...and... Kansas State, Purdue, Minnesota, Southern Illinois, Northern Iowa, Furman and Wisconsin-Green Bay.

In McKay's four seasons at UNM, he has had the most success with Division I transfers, such as:

Danny Granger, who came from Bradley and now plays in the NBA for the Indiana Pacers."

Amoroso just completed a visit to UNLV, and is said to have had a good visit.
I guess it must be a very slow time when we are actually interested in tracking these guys who are deep subs, that get cut from a medium strength D-I.

Amoroso appears headed to UNLV, not UNI as was speculated here and on the Norhtern Iowa board.

Here's a player who wants to transfer from Siena but his coach "won't let him"
http://msn.foxsports.com/cbk/story/5705084

I love it...

Mensah says: "This has nothing to do with Coach McCaffery or Siena, I just don't think I got to play against the top competition night in and night out."

Ok, ok. I agree the Metro Atlantic is NOT 'the top competition night in and night out'. But of the 4 schools mentioned he wants interest from (St. John's, Providence, Duquesne and UMass), IMO, Duquesne and UMass will NOT face 'top competition night in and night out'.

To me, this is laughable. I laugh at Mensah. I am glad Siena says NO to let him go. I laugh at Mensah again. However, I don't think he will help Siena now that he is 'stuck' and has to play there. In this situation, I still laugh at Mensah - it will show his maturity. Good for Siena! Yet, I feel sorry for Siena while they put up with this 'bad-apple' attitude.

But don't you think if every coach has the right to "yank" a scholarship at any time from a kid at the school (a la Porter Moser) then the kids should also have the right to leave as long as they don't go to a conference rival?
