She is the daughter of Peorian A.J. Guyton, who was a consensus 1st team All-American and Big Ten POY at Indiana. Her mother is also a basketball legend. Adriana Moises Pinto-Mafra, who A.J. met while playing in Italy, is one of the greatest Brazilian women's players of all time. She played on the Brazil National Team in the Olympics five times and also for the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury in her 20-year pro career.
Aaliyah did not play her freshman season because of Covid and will be a sophomore this fall, hopefully at Peoria Central High School. The Guytons are considering having Aaliyah play at IMG Academy in Florida if they can't be assured there will be a normal 2021-22 high school season in Illinois. She will be one of the top girl's players nationally in her class of 2024.

One-time Bradley women's basketball class of 2024 recruit Aaliyah Guyton from Peoria HS (daughter of A.J. Guyton) has narrowed her list of college choices to 5 finalists, 4 from the Big Ten (Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Michigan State), and one from the ACC (Pitt)-

Aaliyah Guyton now with U of I, is playing this summer with the Brazilian National Women's team as they compete
for the FIBA South American Championship.
They are in the quarter-finals and play against Paraguay today at 7pm Central Time

The FIBA web site mistakenly has her listed as playing for Illinois State University

Brazil is 2-0 so far in the competition and Aaliyah is their leading scorer at 12.5 ppg, 6 rebounds and 4 asst
There are a couple of streaming sites that are carrying it but they are all premium.

They now face Argentina in the semifinals tonight. If they win, they face Venezuela tomorrow for the FIBA South America
Women's Americup Qualifiers Championship.
