Bradley senior golfer Quinn Cox - pulls a big upset in City Golf Championship

Quinn Cox upsets the #1 seed Scott Phegley in the Peoria Men’s Golf Championship
Cox is from Peoria, went to Peoria Christian HS & ICC.
Phegley was the 3 time reigning champion (2023, 2024, 2025)

Congrats to Bradley senior Quinn Cox. He will play in the semifinal round today.
Tough luck for Scott Phegley, who has dominated the tournament the last few years. As noted, he won the City Tournament the last 3 years, and 5 times overall (2015, 2020, 2023, 2024, and 2025). Scott is a 2007 Bradley grad.
Another Bradley grad, Rick Lehew (1992), has won the tournament a record-tying 7 times.
 
Is Cox considered a professional since he’s being paid by his school (employer) to play golf?
 
Quinn wouldn't have been allowed to play if he was a professional. Quinn lost in the semifinals to his cousin Britt Bothast 4&3. Britt is playing former professional Steven Taylor who beat Brock Brown 3&2. They tried to play the finals amongst the rain drops but after 22 holes they called it off with the score all square. They will continue the match Sunday morning. It's really a shame how small this tournament has gotten. There were only 81 entries this year which was 5 less than last year. Used to have Championship (64 players), A, B and C Flights (32 players in each flight). Had to shoot 75, 76 just to make championship flight.

What do you think is the reason, bigjimmy? Are there fewer people interested in golf, or is it that fewer take it seriously enough to become really good?
