So sad to hear this. Kerry was a terrific player at Chicago Simeon HS and was a member of Jim Molinari's recruiting class of 1993 that in addition to Kerry, also included Anthony Parker and Aaron Zobrist. Those three freshmen joined sophomores Deon Jackson, Billy Wright, Chad Kleine, Dwayne Funches, and Rick Harris, and second-year juco transfer Marcus Pollard to turn around 5 straight losing seasons and give Bradley a 23-8 record (14-4 in MVC) in 1994-95. They got an NIT bid, and beat Murray State and Old Dominion before falling in the 3rd round at Siena.
That group had 20+ wins each of the next 2 seasons, and won the MVC regular season in 1995-96 and played in the NCAA Tournament in Providence, RI. Then with Jackson, Funches, Wright, Kleine, gone, Kerry had his best season in 1996-97 and played a key role as a starter, along with Parker, Zobrist, Bayo Akinkunle, and Eric Roberson, leading Bradley to another NIT appearance.
After graduating from Bradley in 1997, Kerry made his home in Chicago. I ran into him a couple years after he graduated. He was working for a downtown business at that time, and the last I heard about him, he was still work and living in Chicago. Kerry was just 51 years old. RIP.
Here is an article from 2017 when the Bradley MVC Championship team of 1995-96 was inducted into the Bradley Hall of Fame. There are some funny comments and jokes by the coach and players, including a zinger from Coach Mo directed at Kerry Burrell.
